I am an expert tutor and education consultant, undertaking PhD research in Education at the University of Cambridge. As an academic who has been a professional teacher, I provide a combination of exceptional academic knowledge with a deep understanding of the psychology of learning, with proven success optimising the educational development of children across a broad spectrum of needs.
I provide expertise in the key areas your child needs to succeed: subject knowledge, exam-board experience, an insider’s perspective of the education system, and a critical understanding of cutting-edge educational research.
I deliver maths and science tuition, as well as holistic support for school enterance exams. I have successfully prepared students for 8+, 11+ and 13+ exams at some of the most exclusive UK schools.
I pride myself on delivering exceptional learning experiences and inspiring students to exceed the predictions placed on their performance and, importantly, their own perceptions of their abilities. I develop my students to be confident, independent learners, best equipped to succeed in whatever lies ahead.
In addition to my student-faced activities, I am an Affiliate Member of Oracy Cambridge, The Hughes Hall Centre for Effective Spoken Communication, and provide professional development for teachers and other practitioners. I also peer review for the Journal of Biological Education.
As a fourth-generation teacher, I benefit from the combined wisdom of inspirational, innovative educators in tailoring my tutoring to meet diverse individual needs. Whilst I successfully support students in achieving the highest grades, I have particular expertise in supporting the development of students:
My tutoring is bespoke and tailored for your child. I will equip them with the tools and skills they need to become more effective, happier learners, confident when communicating orally, or in written exams.
The support I provide includes general literacy, numeracy and oracy training. I will help your child to become as independent as possible in their learning (that is, knowing how to work best by themself, with others, and knowing when and where to seek support).
Learning is sequential, so as well as assessing where my students are in their learning journey at the onset, which is often different from indications merely from their year stage or current school assessment, I ensure that my students have a secure understanding at every stage, enabling them to make progress with confidence.
In technical terms, I use scaffolded, dialogic teaching approaches and reinforcement activities designed to embed, develop, secure, and build on new concepts. The overall experience is multi-modal, through the use of phonology, semantics and orthography, supplemented with dual-coding techniques, as appropriate. Whilst I have been at the academic cutting edge of developing excellence in teaching strategies for my students, all this simply translates into them having a productive, positive learning experience, making the best use of time.
